"This place is filled with redwoods, a waterfall, pond, herb and vegetable garden, butterflies, hummingbirds, flowers, and variety of wildlife. I don't think I have ever seen so many stars in my life. It is surrounded by mountains and a stream. The best part is the innkeeper, Greta, who is so generous in opening her home and heart to all visitors." - Sonal Basu, Walnut Creek, CA?
Cottages
The cottages are simple but elegantly furnished with a king-sized bed with skylight above, a table and chairs for reading, writing, or snacking, and a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. There is air conditioning and an overhead fan, and an electric fireplace. All the lights are on dimmer switches. Each cottage also has a private spacious bathroom, and a Flat Screen TV with satellite service. The selections include music, movies, and sports channels, as well as Bay Area programming. There are large, soft cotton bath sheets, hair products, a hair dryer, iron and ironing board and fluffy bathrobes. An extra thick single futon can be set up to accommodate a third person in two of our cottages.
Internet access is available in all the cottages as well as the main house’s covered patio and dining
or living room. There is very little if any cell service except for Verizon.
Accessibility
The Aquarius Cottage is wheelchair accessible with a shower with grab bars and a seat. One can wheel a wheelchair under the sink. Grab bars are on either side of the toilet. The cottage has one king sized bed.
The main house has steps in the front and back and is not accessible. If you are not able to maneuver steps for breakfast, it can be brought to you in you in your cottage.
Getting from the parking lot to the cottage is level and easily accessible. Normally, it is not possible to park outside your cottage but if necessary, you can drive there to load and unload.
We are dog-friendly and welcome dogs in our Pisces or Aquarius Cottages.
A sliding glass door leads to a private redwood deck with patio furniture - enjoy watching the wildlife come
and go, or watch the changing light on our lawns and gardens, the quail, the pond, waterfall or a clear view of Mt St Helena.
The Innkeeper lives in the main house, located several hundred feet from the cottages. Landscaping is constantly evolving as we develop more areas into gardens and wetlands which brings more birds, providing a constant source of entertainment. We take pride in having always been an environmentally friendly Inn.
Breakfasts
At this time, because of COVID, our normal hot breakfasts are not being served, but there will be a
continental breakfast in your cottage, which consists of pastries, fresh fruit and coffee and tea. We are hoping to resume hot breakfasts this summer, but this is entirely dependent of
vaccination rates.
One of the many things that makes Backyard Garden Oasis such an extraordinary place is our sensitivity to
different dietary needs ranging from Raw Food or Vegan breakfasts to outrageously rich French Toast, Fritatta, Breakfast Tacos, Omelets and more. Just let us know what your preferences are before you
arrive. For more comments about breakfasts visit our reviews page. Breakfasts are made with only
the best quality foods including organic produce from our garden. We pride ourselves on never having anyone leave the table hungry!
A typical breakfast starts with fresh orange juice and fresh fruit and proceeds to main dishes such
as Omelets or Eggs to your taste, French Toast, Huevos Rancheros, Breakfast Tacos, Pancakes, Frittata, Pastries, and Fresh Garden Salsa. Special requests are honored
whenever possible.
Each cottage has a refrigerator and coffee maker to make your own coffee or tea. Ask me for
a dedicated hot water maker if you are a purist tea lover. We provide gourmet coffee and teas and fresh Half 'n' Half each day. These are also available at the main house with
breakfast. Of course you may prefer reserving a cottage without having breakfast. A discounted price is available for this option.
Some of our recipes have been included in "Best Recipes from American Country Inns and Bed and Breakfasts",
Rutledge Hill Press, 2004, p 50.
WiFi
A new Range Extender has been added to the wireless system for great wireless reception in the cottages and our Data Allowance has expanded. The password is "internet"
Being Green
We designed the Oasis to be a perfectly beautiful, peaceful sanctuary, existing in harmony with the earth, enhancing its beauty, and reveling in its bounty. The cottages were designed to be private and energy efficient with excellent insulation and double-paned windows.
Beginning in 1997, when the Oasis first opened, we have recycled, and, using organic techniques, grown as much of our own food as possible. Our organic garden is a place where guests are free to wander... to sample ... to learn ... to experience. Guests also enjoy the fruits of these labors in the organic produce taken directly from the garden and then used in our delicious breakfasts.
Our Property and Surrounding Area
Backyard Garden Oasis is located in the Collayomi Valley on the Northern slope of Mt. St. Helena, just 20 minutes from Calistoga and 10 minutes from Harbin Hot Springs. The land here is among the most pristine in the area, with much of the original forests remaining and clear and clean running creeks. California Quail abound. Some of our many property features include – an open-air hot tub, a waterfall, a pond, a large lawn, a sacred meditation circle and outdoor lounging areas. Everywhere you look you will find beauty and scenic areas, especially at the Oasis and on the drives to nearby Middletown or Calistoga. There are too many local attractions to list here but we have included quite a few for you on our attractions page.
